Welcome to Westlings

Westlings - High-tech manufacturing built on tradition
Ragnvald Westling ´s drive for absolute independence led him to found his company in 1933 in Vansbro close to three major sawmills, several wood product manufacturers and the steel makers SKF, Sandvik, Bofors and Udde-holm. The tradition of saw blade making goes back several centuries in Sweden to the time when its vast forest and ore resources were first developed. Building on that craftsmanship Ragnvald Westling made major advances in the technology of saw blade manufacture. The world-competitive Swedish sawmilling and steel industries have always been the testing grounds for Westlings products. On this we have built todays world-competitive product range.

Complete production facilities
We have made big investments in the processing of our high quality raw materials. We start with carbon steel in sheets, high speed steel in bars, carbide and stellite in pre-formed pieces. Our processes use laser cutting machines, hardening and annealing furnaces for carbon and high speed steels, 35 ton straightening mill, surface grinders and computer controlled machining centres, turning and grinding machines. We are extremely well equipped!

Works Organisation
We also invest in our people. Our organisation is very flat and consists of goal-related teams. Our people work flexibly, responsibly and with good humour. They use learning together with their skills and their ideas to find new ways to serve the customer better. We operate a quality system conforming to ISO 9002. A learning organisation for the 21st century!

Wood
– Carbide or stellite tipped – Plate saws Sweden’s world class sawmills and timber converters prefer circular sawblades that use the least power and waste little wood. They also want long cutting edge life – to get the high outputs available from the advanced saw machines they use today. So Westlings developed a high quality steel body that runs true with a narrow kerf – even with a 2m diameter! The tips we braze on to it (carbide or stellite) cut cleanly and stay sharp a long time. And the blade makes a good match with the machine – Ahlströms, AKE, ARI, Bruks, Kockums, Linck, Söderhamns, Veisto-Rakenne (Hewsaw)… We make blades and segments for each process stage in sawmilling and conversion. And we still make a range of carbon steel plate saws.

Stone/Concrete
Diamond blades for cutting stone and concrete need very stable bodies which run true when under cutting forces. Westlings supplies such high quality blanks pre-tensioned up to 2 000 mm diameter in FEPA standard or to customers’ own sizes. We also deliver them with a neutral core if customers prefer to tension their own blades. We provide advice and help for this, too. Just ask! The high steel quality of our blanks means that it is usually possible to re-tip them several times.

Metal
– Steel and nonferrous – HSS Segmental – Carbide tipped Our HSS segmental blades are well known in Europe’s steel industries. The large product range includes blades for most saws in use today. Among the customers are world class manufacturers. Our blade performance helps them stay ahead. Westlings pioneered carbide tipped blades to cut steel in Sweden’s celebrated steel industry. Its tough demands have produced today’s high performing sawblades up to 2 000 mm diameter for cutting steel of many different qualities – in ingots, forgings, bars, extrusions and tubes. This striving for the highest quality also underpins our range of carbide tipped blades for cutting aluminium and other non ferrous metals – copper, brass, bronze etc. – on all the well known saw machines. When you choose Westlings you choose high performance, reliability and back up!
